    kirengeshoma

    Take the path (about 400 meters) from 「Katanagakenomatsu」, a pine tree that is shaped like a sword rack, you will find a protected area where the endangered Kirengeshoma palmata grow. The best time to visit this area is from the end of July to mid-August. This is not included in the duration.

    Tsurugisan Hongu Hozoseki Shrine (at the summit)

    According to local legend, there is a sacred sword inside the Hozoseki or treasure hidden beneath it. Every July, Tsurugisan Hongu Reitaisai is held and a portable shrine is carried to the summit.

    Tsurugisan (the summit)

    It is the second highest mountain in West Japan, and among the "one hundred top mountains of Japan″it is relatively easy to climb. The mountain has a flat summit where you can enjoy the 360-degree panoramic view. Tsurugiyama got its name from the story of Emperor Antoku, who escaped with the Heike clan, hiding his sword deep within the mountains.

    Otsurugi Shrine (god of good matches)

    The object of worship is the 50-meter-high big stone towering behind the shrine. In front of the shrine there is a big writing that says "Get rid of every bad relationships, and create good ones.″Also at the foot of the shrine, a spring named Tsurugiyama Oshikimizu : divine water gushes from under the the object of worship. (The big stone)

    Jirokyu

    Jirogyu has a beautiful gentle slope, covered mostly in bamboo grass. The trail connects to the mountain ridge.

Among the mountains that lie between Tokushima prefecture and Kochi prefecture, the second highest mountain next to Tsurugiyama is Mitsumine, 1,893 meters above the sea. Rich in nature with many alpine plants, it is loved by many mountain climbers. Also selected as one of the "two hundreds top mountains of Japan″as well as one of the "one hundred top mountains of Shikoku.″You can enjoy the 360-degree panoramic view from the summit. The beautiful azalea (Rhododendron tschonoskii) bloom from mid-June to the end of July, also changing its colors in the fall. For climbers with strong legs.

※It branches off from the top of Miune to Tsurugisan or to Tenguzuka direction.

Tenguzuka Route

Since the summit is a triangular pyramid, it looks the same from all directions. Tenguzuka, 1,812 meters above the sea, is covered in alpine plants like Bamboo (Shikokuzasa) and Azalea (Kotsumetsutsuji), with a great 360-degree panoramic view from the summit. For climbers with strong legs. On the west side of the mountain extends the view of Ushinose, a large bamboo grass plateau. If a phantom pond (a pond made from rainwater) appears, you can see the reversed Tengu. Near where the trail branches off, you can also see the Ochiai village in the distance.

Miune Trailhead→Dakemominooka→Miune(Miune Huette(Stay the night))→Okameiwa→Tenguzuka→hike down to Tenguzuka Trailhead. You can enjoy the alpine plants like Bamboo(Shikokuzasa) and Azalea(Kotsumetsutsuji), as well as the 360-degree panoramic view at the summit of Tenguzuka. For climbers with strong legs.
